# We start with Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says they have a lot to work on ahead of their title-deciding Rugby Championship match against Argentina in Mbombela on Saturday. The Los Pumas defeated South Africa 29-28 in Santiago del Estero to keep alive their slim hopes of claiming a first-ever Rugby Championship title. Players who were rested for the Argentina leg of the tournament will rejoin the squad today, resuming with a full training programme. Erasmus says they have a chance to redeem themselves on Saturday.
# Cricket: South Africa defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets in the third and final one-day international at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The home side, who had already clinched the series, were dismissed for 169 with Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Nqaba Peter taking three wickets each. Rahmanullah Gurbaz top scored with 89. In reply, Aiden Markram scored 69 as the Proteas reached the target in 33 overs. Captain Temba Bavuma says he is happy with their overall performance:
# Cycling: South Africa’s Candice Lill won the bronze medal at the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in Snowshoe, USA. She finished 69-seconds behind the winner Mona Mitterwallner from Austria with Switzerland’s Sina Frei finishing second. Lill finished second last year behind Mitterwallner. Forty-five women participated in the gruelling championship spanning 100 kilometres. The men’s section was won by Denmark’s Simon Andreassen.
# Tennis: Team Europe overturned an eight-four deficit against Team World in Berlin to secure their first Laver Cup title since 2021. The comeback was led by Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud, who triumphed in the final day’s opening doubles match. Daniil Medvedev lost his singles match against Ben Shelton, while Alexander Zverev beat Frances Tiafoe. Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz, 6-2, 7-5, to lead Team Europe to a 13-11 victory. Alcaraz says he is happy they won:
# And Golf: American Billy Horschel won a three-way play-off against Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence to win the PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in England. All three entered a three-way play-off after ending their final rounds on 20 under par. However, Lawrence exited the play-off with a bogey on the first hole. Horschel, who made an eagle on the second playoff hole to win the championship for the second time in three years, says he is speechless:
