Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start with athletics: Two-time Olympic champion Caster Semenya says she hopes the European Court of Human Rights will rule in her favour. Yesterday, the court heard the 32-year-old’s case challenging the requirement to lower her testosterone levels to compete. She was born with differences in sexual development, and currently isn’t allowed to compete in female track events without taking testosterone-reducing drugs. Semenya says for her it is about advocating for what is right:
# Cricket: Former Proteas star batter Gary Kirsten will have very little time to get acquainted with Pakistan’s team before the start of a four-match T20 series against England. He only joins the team as head coach on Sunday, with the first encounter being played at Headingley on Wednesday. The two countries will use the series as final preparation for next month’s World Cup in the US and the Caribbean. Kirsten says the tournament is a fantastic opportunity for Pakistan to uphold its legacy as a formidable force.
# Tennis: World number one Iga Swiatek of Poland will face world number three Coco Gauff of America in the semifinals of the Italian Open today. Swiatek aims to become the first woman since Serena Williams in 2013 to win back-to-back singles titles in Madrid and Rome. World number two Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus takes on 13th seeded American Danielle Collins. This is the first time the world’s top three women’s players have reached the semifinals of a 250-level or higher WTA event since the 2013 French Open.

United defeated Newcastle three-two, while Chelsea won two-one against Brighton to move up to sixth in the table. A fifth or sixth-placed finish would give the Blues a spot in next season’s Europa League, while seventh is only good enough for the Europa Conference League. United, currently in eighth, could qualify for the Europa League if they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
# And finally, golf: PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh says Tiger Woods will be given plenty of time to decide whether he can captain the USA at next year’s Ryder Cup in New York. The 15-time major winner has said his part in negotiating a peace deal between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, could rule him out. The US were comprehensively beaten by Europe in Rome last year. Waugh says Woods does not do anything that he is not fully committed to:
