# Golf: Xander Schauffele secured his maiden major victory by winning the PGA Championship by one shot. The American held off compatriot Bryson DeChambeau and Norway’s Viktor Hovland to triumph on 21 under at Valhalla in Kentucky. World number one Scottie Scheffler of the US finished in tied-eighth and Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy claimed a share of 12th. Schauffele says he never lost confidence in his abilities.
# Motorsport: Red Bull’s Max Verstappen held off a late charge from McLaren’s Lando Norris to win the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy. Charles Leclerc took third to seal Ferrari’s first podium at Imola since 2006. Oscar Piastri finished fourth in a solid drive for McLaren, with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in fifth place. This is Verstappen’s fifth victory in seven races this season. The Dutchman says this was a hard-fought victory:
# And finally, tennis: Germany’s Alexander Zverev says he is confident heading into the French Open, after winning his second Italian Open title in Rome. The third seed defeated Chilean Nicolas Jarry, 6-4, 7-5, to claim his sixth Masters One-thousand crown. This is the 27-year-old’s biggest title since he suffered an ankle injury in the Roland Garros semifinals in 2022. Zverev, who climbs to number four in the world rankings today, says he hopes he can carry this momentum to Paris.
