# We start with cricket: The Dolphins are the One Day Cup champions, after defeating Boland by four wickets in Paarl. Aya Gqamane and Imran Manack shared a record eighth-wicket stand for the hosts, adding 96 runs from 75 balls to give Boland a solid total of 247 for eight after being sent in to bat first. In reply, JJ Smuts scored 91 off 111 balls as the Dolphins reached 248 for six with five balls to spare to secure the victory. Boland was bidding to win their first major title in 25 years.
# Golf: 2019 champion Rory McIlroy will face American JJ Spaun in a three-hole playoff today to decide the Players Championship winner in Florida. A four-hour weather delay ensured the PGA Tour’s flagship event would not finish yesterday. The Northern Irishman posted a four-under 68 to finish alongside Spaun on 12 under. Americans Tom Hoge, Akshay Bhatia, and Lucas Glover finished two strokes back in tied-third on ten under.
# Tennis: British number one Jack Draper defeated Denmark’s Holger Rune to win the Indian Wells Masters, the biggest title of his career. The 23-year-old stormed to a 6-2, 6-2 victory in just 68 minutes to claim his first ATP 1000 Masters title. In the women’s draw, 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva captured her second consecutive 1000 title after toppling world number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the final. Draper says he is proud of his achievement:
# Motorsport: Six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez won the Argentina Grand Prix to maintain his perfect start to the season. The 32-year-old Spaniard finished ahead of his brother Alex Marquez and Franco Morbidelli to clinch the 90th win of his career. South Africa’s Brad Binder ended in seventh place for Red Bull KTM. Marquez says he is impressed at how his brother was able to match him at every step of the race:
# And soccer: Newcastle United beat holders Liverpool 2-1 to win the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium, ending their 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy. Dan Burn and Alexander Isak found the back of the net for the Magpies, while Liverpool’s goal came from Federico Chiesa in the 94th minute. Newcastle’s Eddie Howe, who is the first English manager to win a major trophy since 2008, says they were desperate to win after so many years of hurt:
