BULLETIN 13 April 8 am
Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The DA holds a constructive meeting with the ANC
# Donald Trump threatens to skip the G20 summit in SA citing so-called land confiscation and genocide
# And Rugby: The Bulls lose against Edinburgh and are out of the European Challenge Cup
# The DA says its negotiating team met a delegation from the ANC in Johannesburg. The two party’s discussions follows in the wake of the recent dispute over the National Budget’s Fiscal Framework, which contains a one-percent VAT increase over two years. The DA’s Helen Zille says the party reiterated its position that a VAT increase is unaffordable in the absence of meaningful reform that will increase economic growth and create jobs:
# US President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social media platform saying that he might not attend the G20 Summit in South Africa in November. He questioned how world leaders could be expected to attend the meeting, claiming that land confiscation and genocide would be the topic of discussion. Responding to Trump, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation’s spokesperson Crispin Phiri, said South Africa belongs to all those who live in it. He added the Constitution protects all people, not because they are black or white, but because they are human beings.
Meanwhile, the EFF says it has taken note of Trump’s social media message about his reservations regarding attending the summit. The EFF’s spokesperson, Sinawo Thambo says in his usual delusional manner, Trump cites land confiscations and genocide in South Africa as his reason and attaches to his ridiculous claim, a video of the EFF leader Julius Malema debating the land question in the Parliament of South Africa:
# The City of Cape Town’s Department of Community, Arts and Culture Development is ramping up support for non-profit organisations to bolster their capacity in helping people sleeping rough on the street. Mayoral committee member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham says as part of its annual Winter Preparedness Programme, the city will provide resources to help increase shelter capacity and improve support services for vulnerable residents facing the elements:
# And Rugby: The Bulls bowed out of the Challenge Cup yesterday afternoon, going down 34-28 to Edinburgh in their quarterfinal in the Scottish capital. A comeback in the second half by the team in blue was not enough, after a dismal first-half. The home team was leading 24-7 at half-time. In the other quarter-final matches played yesterday, Paris based Racing beat Connacht 43-40 and Lyon narrowly made it past the Welsh outfit Ospreys with the score on 20-18.
