Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Mmusi Maimane urges South Africans to unite for change
# AfriForum presents a minority rights report at the UN Forum on Minority Issues
# And, the Springboks inflicted the worst ever defeat on Wales in Cardiff
# Build One South Africa leader Mmusi Maimane says the country does not need numerous political parties but collective action to solve national challenges. Speaking in Soweto during the Unite for Change campaign, made of BOSA, the GOOD Party and RISE Mzansi, Maimane called on South Africans to work together to tackle issues like poor service delivery, hunger, and corruption. He stressed that uniting is about meaningful change:
# AfriForum head of Public Relations, Ernst van Zyl, presented findings from The World Must Know report at the United Nation’s 18th Forum on Minority Issues. The report was also handed to UN Special Rapporteur Nicolas Levrat. Van Zyl highlighted concerns affecting minorities, including hate speech, farm attacks and the Expropriation Act. He emphasised that the UN comments on governments scapegoating minorities reflect current behaviour in South Africa:
# The Motsepe Foundation says all systems go for the annual National Day of Prayer at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium today. The day is expected to gather over 120-thousand people from diverse communities and faith-based organisations. The Foundation’s chief executive, Precious Moloi-Motsepe, says the event aims to promote unity and social cohesion, encouraging South Africans to come together in prayer and seek collective solutions to the nation’s social challenges.
The Gauteng Traffic Police meanwhile urged motorists to exercise caution as heavy traffic is expected on major routes and all roads around the stadium. Spokesperson Sello Maremane warns of possible wet conditions and urges drivers to slow down, maintain safe distances, and cooperate with law enforcement:
# The presidents of Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda will travel to Washington this week to sign a peace deal and meet with US President Donald Trump. The Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group seized the region’s two largest cities amidst fears that a wider war could draw in more of Congo’s neighbours. The latest cycle of fighting has killed thousands of people and displaced hundreds of thousands more. The meeting next week is expected to build on a U.S.-brokered peace deal reached in June and a Regional Economic Integration Framework agreed earlier this month.
# And finally rugby: The Springboks inflicted the worst ever defeat on Wales in Cardiff as they demolished them 73-0, scoring 11 tries in the process to end their November tour in perfect fashion. However, the perfect scorecard was marred by a permanent red card towards the end of the match for the Springboks’ most capped player in history, Eben Etzebeth. He clashed against Alex Mann with replays showing him sticking his finger in Mann’s eye. The one-sided performance by the Springboks continued Wales’ nightmare at test level and reaffirmed South Africa’s status as the best test side in the world.
