# The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court has postponed the corruption case against former Eskom contractor Michael Lomas to 27 September. Lomas faces 65 counts related to 1.4-billion-rand earmarked for the upgrade of Eskom’s Kusile power station. His extradition from the UK followed multiple failed appeals against it. Investigative directorate spokesperson Henry Mamothame says the investigation involves eleven other suspects, including former Eskom executives:
# The DA says Electricity and Energy minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa’s withdrawal of the 200-billion-rand nuclear procurement determination marks a major step towards accountability. The party contested the decision to procure two-thousand-500 megawatts of nuclear power, citing a lack of public consultation and transparency. The DA’s Kevin Mileham says this move ensures energy procurement processes are subject to rigorous scrutiny and uphold the principles of good governance:
# The Department of Home Affairs will open its offices on Saturdays from today till 12 October, to assist matriculants. Operating from 8 AM to 1 PM, services will include issuing temporary identity certificates, ID collection, and applications. Minister Leon Schreiber emphasises that this initiative will help learners write their exams and move toward economic empowerment. Parents and matriculants are also urged to collect their IDs. Deputy minister Njabulo Nzuza will visit the Orlando Home Affairs office today to support the initiative.
# Rugby: The Currie Cup will come to a thrilling conclusion in Johannesburg today when the Lions and Sharks meet in the final, the first between these two teams since 2011. The Highvelders will attempt to lift the famous trophy for the first time since 2015. It will be the first time since 2021 for the Durbanites to make an appearance in a final again. The last time they lifted the Currie Cup, was when they beat Western Province in the 2018 final. Kick-off is at 4pm.
# And finally: KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has announced that disaster management teams are on standby in response to severe weather warnings over the weekend. A level six snowstorm is expected in uThukela, Harry Gwala, and uMgungundlovu districts. The department’s Senzelwe Mzila advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, urging farmers to protect livestock from the cold:
