# The High Court in Pietermaritzburg will deliver judgment in the reopened inquest into the 1967 death of former ANC president Chief Albert Luthuli on 30 October. In the state’s closing arguments, it highlighted inconsistencies in the original inquest, urging the court to rule that Luthuli was murdered. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says prosecutors also requested an investigation into the disappearance of eyewitness Mbhemu Mnyandu, believed to be linked to the case:
# Disbarred advocate Malesela Teffo has indicated his intention to join as a friend of the court in the bail review of Police Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo and two co-accused. Teffo claims the accused are dangerous and linked to his imprisonment. Khumalo and his co-accused seek relaxed bail conditions to return to work. The court ruled he must formally file his application. The matter has been postponed to 6 November.
# AfriForum has accused Transport minister Barbara Creecy of misleading the public after confirming that payment for temporary driver’s licences still apply despite her promise to scrap it. The Road Traffic Management Corporation confirmed the 72-rand fee remains in place, contradicting Creecy’s parliamentary statements. AfriForum’s Louis Boshoff says the delay amounts to dishonesty and they are considering legal action to enforce the decision:
# Soccer: South African Soccer Association president Danny Jordaan says the succession of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos will be a challenge. Broos intends to step down after next year’s World Cup. Speaking at OR Tambo International Airport following Bafana’s 3-0 victory over Rwanda, Jordaan praised Broos as the driving force behind the team’s recent success. He added that while they respect his decision, SAFA will begin planning for a smooth transition and future development:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-33-cents and the euro at 20-rand-14-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-15-cents and Bitcoin trades at 112-thousand-35-dollars. Top of the list is the USA, followed by the United Arab Emirates, the Maldives, South Africa, and France. She says a few destinations offer such a compelling mix.
