Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# South Africa submits dossiers on genocide allegations against Israel to the UN Security Council
# Mkhwanazi says engineer Armand Swart’s murder exposed police corruption and organised crime
# And cricket: Kepler Wessels’ son makes his debut as a top-level umpire in Australia
# South Africa has submitted three public dossiers to the United Nations Security Council today, accusing Israel of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The submissions outline alleged incitement by Israeli officials, acts of genocide, and the use of starvation and aid weaponisation. This complement South Africa’s ongoing International Court of Justice case and follow a UN report finding genocidal acts. Pretoria hopes the council will act under the UN Charter.
# KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says the murder of Q-Tech Engineering’s engineer, Armand Swart, exposed corruption and organised crime within the police. Swart was killed last year after revealing information on Transnet tender fraud. Mkwhanazi testified at the Madlanga commission of inquiry in Pretoria that investigators faced threats, bribery attempts, and evidence tampering. He says this led to the deployment of ten political killings task team officials in a covert operation in Gauteng:
# The DA will expose the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture’s failures under minister Gayton McKenzie in Parliament, citing mismanagement, patronage, and reckless financial decisions. The party says cultural festivals and grassroots sports have suffered, with 82-million-rand diverted from sports federations to fund Video Assistant Referee technology in soccer. Spokesperson Leah Potgieter demands reinstated funding for festivals, full disclosure of the Mzansi Golden Economy allocations, and an independent adjudication process, calling for accountability and an end to political interference:
Moving abroad:
# US president Donald Trump and first lady Melania arrived at Windsor Castle on board Marine One. They were met by the Prince and Princess of Wales for their second state visit to the UK. They then joined King Charles and Queen Camilla for a carriage procession through Windsor estate, before a fly-past and tonight’s state banquet. Tourists and Trump fans, some wearing Make America Great Again merchandise, were awaiting the couple’s arrival. Meanwhile, four people have been arrested after images of Trump and late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were projected onto the castle.
# Cricket: The son of former Proteas captain Kepler Wessels, Riki, made his debut as umpire in Australia’s One-day Cup competition. The 39-year-old was born in Australia while his father played Tests for the country before returning to South Africa. Riki played cricket in England earlier, where he represented Worcestershire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire. He also played for Sydney Sixers in Australia’s Big Bash League before retiring in 2022. He was recently named as Queensland’s match official of the year.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-35-cents and the euro at 20-rand-57-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-71-cents and Bitcoin trades at 115-thousand-858-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-683-dollars-33-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 68-dollars-11-cents a barrel.
