# National police commissioner Fanni Masemola has emphasised the need for intelligence sharing and cooperation among nations to combat crime. He was speaking at the conclusion of the 27th Interpol African Regional Conference in Cape Town. Masemola highlighted the scale of crime challenges facing law enforcement in Africa and globally. He says these include human and drug trafficking, cybercrime, wildlife crime, and illicit financial flows such as money laundering and tax evasion:
# KwaZulu-Natal police officials seen escorting a learner to a matric dance in Estcourt using an official vehicle have been suspended from duty pending an internal investigation. Provincial commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi ordered their temporary removal, disciplinary action, and repayment of state resources misused. A viral video showed the armed officials on duty, neglecting their duties. Mkhwanazi condemned the misuse of vehicles and warned that state resources must only be used for official duties, not personal gain.
# The Philippi wellfield and water treatment works project will boost Cape Town’s drinking water supply from 2028. The facility, currently under construction, will deliver ten-million litres of clean water daily using advanced filtration technologies. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the project is part of the city’s plan to add 300-million litres of water a day from new sources by 2030 while protecting groundwater and boosting resilience against climate change:

# The Trump administration has withdrawn former vice president Kamala Harris’s Secret Service security protection. The administration terminated an extension approved by then-president Joe Biden for the defeated Democratic presidential candidate whose customary six-month period of protection ended on 21 July. While she has kept a low profile since losing the election, Harris is scheduled to go on tour to promote a book she has written on her failed presidential bid. This will force her to appear in public. The book be launched on 23 September.
# Rugby: Springbok Women centre Zintle Mpupha views Sunday’s World Cup match against Italy in York, England, as the biggest game of their lives. South Africa will be in a strong position to qualify for the quarterfinals if they beat the Italians after routing Brazil 66-6 in their first encounter. The Boks are 12th in the world rankings and Italy eighth. Mpupha says Italy is a very skilled team with good attacking skills, and she expects a wonderful match. Kick-off is at 4.30 Sunday afternoon.
