# The Bellville Commercial Crimes Court in Cape Town has found Platinum Forex boss Colin Davids, his company and marketing manager Derek Bredenkamp guilty of fraud and money laundering. They illegally solicited 329-million-rand in public funds for forex trading, lost 87.5-million-rand, and paid returns using new deposits. The court found they operated without the required licences. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says sentencing proceedings will resume tomorrow:
# The Western Cape High Court has sentenced Fast Guns gang members Carlo Hofmeester and Chadwin Isaacs to life imprisonment for the 2019 murder of five-year-old Valentino Grootetjie in Lavender Hill, Cape town. The duo were also convicted on multiple attempted murders. The National Prosecuting Authority’s Eric Ntabazalila says Judge Melanie Holderness ruled the men showed no remorse:
# The crypto company Luno Africa says updating South Africa’s digital asset regulations could generate at least 540-million-rand in additional tax revenue. General manager Marius Reitz says the estimate is based on just one-percent of institutional funds investing in crypto Electronic Funds Transfers. Reitz urges regulatory clarity defining cryptocurrencies as onshore assets. He emphasised this would encourage investment and boost the collection of capital gains tax, thereby aiding South Africa’s overstretched fiscus.
# The South African Defence Force says weapons and equipment used by soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo are being returned following the phased withdrawal after a ceasefire in the war-torn eastern DRC. SANDF’s Siphiwe Sangweni says the process is ongoing with around 80-percent of the equipment being moved from Goma to a transit camp in Tanzania:
# Cricket: The Proteas can expect a heroes’ welcome when they bring the coveted golden mace home tomorrow. Cricket South Africa confirmed the Test world champions will land at OR Tambo Airport in Gauteng at 9.25 in the morning. The group returned to Lord’s in London yesterday after clinching the World Test Championship with a five-wicket victory over Australia on Saturday. Allrounder Wiaan Mulder describes the celebrations as something he hadn’t had before, saying the home of cricket was the best place to do it.
