# The National Employers’ Association of South Africa and business organisation Sakeliga have given Employment and Labour minister Nomakhosazana Meth until 18 June to suspend new employment equity regulations or face urgent legal action. The groups oppose rules forcing companies with 50 or more staff to meet race, gender, and disability quotas or face fines of up to 10-percent of turnover. Sakeliga CEO Piet le Roux says the quotas are unconstitutional and would cause serious harm to businesses and the economy.
# South African Breweries says all viable alternatives are on the table as it considers a restructuring process that could lead to job cuts. According to News24, union federation Saftu accuses SAB of launching a sustained attack on jobs, warning that 233 warehouse workers are now at risk and over one-thousand jobs have been lost in six years. The company says no final decision on retrenchments has been made, and it’s committed to fair engagement, with talks continuing under a legally guided process.

Gold sells at three-thousand-335-dollars-36-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 67-dollars-75-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The award-winning Nigerian film director behind Daughters of Chibok, Kachi Benson, is set to screen his latest offering at the 27th edition of the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival this month. More than a decade after the world was shaken by the abduction of 276 schoolgirls from Chibok, Nigeria by Boko Haram militants, Benson returns with Mothers of Chibok, which dives into the lives of the women left behind.
