# Finance minister Enoch Godongwana has emphasised the significance of collaboration between business and government as South Africa seeks international support at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. South Africa aims to enhance its global influence, promote equality, and build a more resilient economy. Speaking at a pre-World Economic Forum breakfast session, the minister stressed that government and business unity is key to addressing economic and social challenges while ensuring technological advancements are inclusive and sustainable.
# ActionSA’s National Youth Forum is calling on the National Student Financial Aid Scheme to immediately settle all outstanding debts and cease making excuses, avoiding accountability, and perpetuating a culture of corruption. ActionSA’s Reuben Coetzer says despite the promise of reform from the government of national unity, Higher Education minister Nobuhle Nkabane and the interim NSFAS board have proven equally ineffective in addressing the urgent crisis at hand, turning a blind eye to the struggles of students:
# Popular Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has undergone surgery and is out of danger after he was stabbed by an intruder in his home overnight. The attack took place early this morning in an upscale neighbourhood in the Indian city of Mumbai, where Khan lives with his family. Police told BBC the actor was injured after a scuffle broke out between him and an unidentified man who entered his house sometime after midnight. Khan is married to Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan and made his Bollywood debut in 1993.
# Golf: Australian Greg Norman has been replaced as chief executive of LIV Golf. LIV announced that experienced sports executive Scott O’Neil was taking over from Norman. According to a statement Norman, who has been instrumental to the launch of LIV Golf as its first CEO and Commissioner, will hand off day-to-day management, but will remain involved with LIV Golf. Norman has been a polarising figure in the rift between the established PGA Tour and the start-up LIV Golf which is owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-85-cents and the euro at 19-rand-37-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-98-cents and Bitcoin trades at 99-thousand-176-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-716-dollars-34-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 80-dollars-92-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The DA in the Western Cape has congratulated Artscape for hosting over 301-thousand-298 guests in 2024. This milestone reflects world-class productions and community development efforts.
