# The DA has called on Transport minister, Barbara Creecy, to investigate alleged overpayment fraud involving former Air Traffic Navigation Services board members. According to the party, reports suggest that ATNS overpaid two board members over 355-thousand-rand in fraudulent claims in 2021, which the board unsuccessfully attempted to recover. The DA’s Chris Hunsinger urges Creecy to enforce financial discipline to restore confidence in navigation services ahead of the festive season:
# The City of Tshwane has reached a landmark agreement with Eskom to settle its 6.67-billion-rand debt. Mayor Nasiphi Moya announced a five-year repayment plan, starting with 400-million-rand this month. The city has also committed to paying its current bills on time to prevent more debt. During a news conference, Moya thanked Electricity and Energy minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa for helping with the negotiations:
# The South African Weather Service says heatwave conditions are expected across several provinces this week. The Northern Cape and Free State will experience extreme heat until Wednesday, while KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga will be affected until Friday. The public is advised to limit exposure to the heat and stay hydrated. The service also warns of extremely high fire danger conditions throughout the week.
# Motorsport: Australian Jack Doohan will drive for Alpine in place of Frenchman Esteban Ocon during the weekend’s final Formula One race in Abu Dhabi. Doohan will drive for the team next year, alongside Pierre Gasly of France, while Ocon will move to Haas. The teams made the decision to give Doohan the chance to gain experience of a Grand Prix weekend before the start of the next season. Ocon meanwhile will test his new Haas car during a post-season drive in Abu Dhabi next week.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-16-cents and the euro at 19-rand-8-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-3-cents and Bitcoin trades at 95-thousand-605-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-648-dollars-27-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-54-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela believes initiating meaningful conversations can reshape South Africa’s narrative. Speaking at MANCOSA’s Chota Motala memorial lecture, Madonsela emphasised addressing disparities, fostering unity, and advancing social justice. She highlighted the need for ethical leadership to tackle inequality, racial polarisation, and democratic trust deficits. Madonsela urged South Africans to reclaim constitutional values and heal divisions.
