# Julius Malema slams the media for misleading coverage of the EFF
# And rugby: The Springboks’ physiotherapist leaves SA Rugby after 17 years
# Police minister Senzo Mchunu says the South African Police Service continues to be successesfull in fighting crime despite ongoing challenges in crime intelligence, technology, and forensics. Mchunu highlighted recent operations including the arrest of 95 Libyan nationals in Mpumalanga and the discovery of drug labs in Limpopo worth billions. He says other successes include the arrest of perpetrators allegedly involved in the mass shootings in Lusikisiki and Qumbu:
# EFF leader Julius Malema has criticised the media for spreading, what he calls, false stories about the party, including claims of defections, the mass exodus of members and internal problems. Malema also accused the media of focusing on negative narratives while ignoring the EFF’s successes, including its growing influence in Parliament:
# South Africa is looking to boost its green technology sector following the outcomes of the COP29 climate talks, held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Dion George, commended the agreements on key climate goals, including a new financial commitment from developed nations to mobilise over five-trillion-rand per year by 2035 to help developing countries. A key achievement is the establishment of the loss and damage fund, which will support climate-vulnerable communities starting next year.
# Manila’s disaster management office has released drone footage of flames engulfing a shanty community in the port area of the Philippine capital. About two-thousand families have been left without homes, after around one-thousand structures were destroyed in the blaze. Dozens of fire engines, fire boats and two Air Force helicopters were deployed to tackle the blaze. Emergency services have so far reported no casualties. It comes months after eleven people died in a residential fire in the Chinatown district of the city.
# Rugby: The Springboks’ physiotherapist, Rene Naylor, is leaving SA rugby after 17 years. She has been involved in over 100 Tests, including the past two World Cup campaigns. Former Bok wing Bryan Habana says Naylor made a phenomenal contribution to the national team, and her passion, positivity, professionalism and commitment has been nothing short of remarkable. Current Bok centre Jesse Kriel on Saturday convinced security in Cardiff to allow her to bring her son Cullin on the field after her last match with the Boks, against Wales.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand and the euro at 18-rand-94-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-68-cents and Bitcoin trades at 97-thousand-426-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-653-dollars-36-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 73-dollars-30-cents a barrel.
