# The High Court rules accused number three in the Senzo Meyiwa case is unlawfully detained at C-Max
# Two-hundred electric Ubers are to be launched in South Africa next year
# And rugby: Rassie once again plays the guessing game before the England clash
# The High Court in Pretoria has ruled that accused number three in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Mthobisi Mncube’s detention at C-Max is unlawful. Meyiwa, the former captain of Bafana Bafana, was murdered in Gauteng 10-years ago. The court was concerned about Mncube’s mental health claims. A similar request by Fisokuhle Ntuli was struck off the roll with judge Jan Swanepoel stating it lacked urgency. Swanepoel ordered Mncube’s transfer to any other maximum security centre:
# Uber will roll out 200 electric vehicles in South Africa next year, beginning with a pilot in Johannesburg. This green initiative, featuring BYD-manufactured electric cars, was showcased during the Earthshot Prize event in Cape Town. Uber says it has renewed its commitment to sustainability as the company aims to help lower the cost of electric vehicle ownership. The company says this marks a significant step towards eco-friendly ride-sharing in South Africa.
# The South African government continues its efforts to mediate peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. Addressing the media, International Relations and Cooperation minister, Ronald Lamola, said government supports ongoing negotiations and diplomatic solutions to resolve the conflict in the DRC. According to Lamola, government is also working with global partners to address the humanitarian crisis and help bring lasting peace to Sudan:
# Thirty-five people have been killed and another 43 injured when a motorist deliberately drove into people at a sports centre in the Chinese city of Zhuhai. A 62-year-old man was apprehended as he tried to flee the scene. Police say he had self-harmed using a knife and was admitted to hospital. A preliminary investigation found he was unhappy with the split of financial assets in his divorce. Violent crime is rare in China due to tight security and strict gun laws, but there appears to be a rise in knife attacks.
# Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has again decided to keep the opponents guessing for as long as possible, opting to only name his team for Saturday’s clash with England at Twickenham on Thursday. Last week, he also named the match-day 23 for the match against Scotland two days prior. Erasmus is expected to choose his strongest available team after making 11 changes for the Scotland Test. There is particular interest in whether he will opt for Handré Pollard or Manie Libbok in the number 10 jersey.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-15-cents and the euro at 19-rand-16-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-15-cents and Bitcoin trades at 86-thousand-108-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-613-dollars-1-cent a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 68-dollars-60-cents a barrel.
