# President Cyril Ramaphosa has promised an ongoing review of the executive’s size as the democracy matures, to ensure effective governance. While the executive’s size is under scrutiny, the focus remains on sustainable growth and strategic reforms. Ramaphosa addressed the Presidency’s budget vote debate and urged strong central government coordination to tackle challenges. He says the impact of reforms shows the Presidency’s vital role in driving development and ensuring effective governance for all citizens:
# ANC veteran Tony Yengeni says he is representing former president Jacob Zuma at the ANC disciplinary committee hearing. This comes after Zuma backed the MK Party during the elections. Speaking to the SABC, Yengeni emphasised the importance of Zuma going through proper ANC processes and ANC adherence to procedures. He says Zuma seeks an in-person meeting with the committee:
# Experts are advocating for South Africa’s 530-rand child-support grant to be raised. The rate falls 30-percent below the 760-rand food poverty line, with 40-percent of working-age South Africans unemployed and 55-percent in dire poverty. Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice and Dignity’s Mervyn Abrahams, says the grant supports 13.2-million children but inadequately meets nutritional needs. He suggests capping utility tariffs, expanding VAT-exempt food items, and aligning the grant with the food poverty line to alleviate child hunger.
# Olympic Games: Former junior world and African champion Zenéy Geldenhuys has cemented her place as South Africa’s top 400m hurdler in recent years. The 24-year-old will make her Olympic debut after qualifying with a time of 54.72 seconds. Geldenhuys won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and is looking to make her mark in Paris:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-30-cents and the euro at 19-rand-88-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-66-cents and Bitcoin trades at 66-thousand-698-dollars-74-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-421-dollars-66-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 81-dollars-35-cents a barrel.
# And, Australian doctors are trying to re-attach a surfer’s severed leg that washed up after a shark attack. Twenty-three-year-old Kai McKenzie was attacked by a huge great white while surfing in New South Wales yesterday. He managed to get to the beach where an off-duty police member stemmed the bleeding by using his dog’s lease as a tourniquet. McKenzie’s leg washed up shortly afterwards and locals put it on ice and took it to the hospital. A GoFundMe page opened for his medical costs already attracted almost 900-thousand-rand.
