# Trade union Solidarity is contemplating legal action due to concerns over mismanagement of the government employees’ pension fund. They aim to protect pensioners’ interests amidst fears of further mismanagement and potential financial losses. At a recent summit, experts highlighted issues including past irregularities and new legislation allowing early pension withdrawals. Solidarity’s Marius Croukamp expressed concern that the fund, Africa’s largest pension fund, could suffer losses if public service workers withdraw their funds prematurely:
# The case against Siboniso Zitha, accused of murdering pastry chef Thembekile Letlape, has been postponed to 19 August. NPA Gauteng regional spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed that Zitha received a provisional charge sheet at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court. In addition, she says Zitha, initially charged with Letlape’s murder, now faces additional charges, including assault and malicious damage to property:
# Stefanutti Stocks coastal manager Matthew Horwill survived a hit-style shooting in Pinetown, west of Durban, this morning. A gunman ambushed the 44-year-old as he approached the company’s headquarters, riddling his car with at least seven bullet holes. Horwill sustained a gunshot wound to his arm. Appointed as managing director for the coastal region in March, Horwill has been with the company since 2003. A case of attempted murder has been registered, and the suspect remains at large.
# A British tourist was stabbed to death in a night club near Barcelona, Spain. Police have confirmed that there was a fatality, and another person was injured and taken to hospital. According to SkyNews, there was a fight outside the Oxygen nightclub in the early hours of this morning and the tourist died at the scene. In a statement, Catalan police said it is investigating the violent death of a 31-year-old man.
# Rugby: The Bulls have lost playmaker fullback Willie le Roux for the United Rugby Championship final tomorrow, but exciting wing Kurt-Lee Arendse is back in the starting team. Devon Williams moves from wing to fullback. Johan Goosen starts at flyhalf again with Chris Smith on the bench. Akker van der Merwe and Nizaam Carr are two of the impact players included on the bench. Kick-off at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria is at 6pm tomorrow.
