# Trade union Solidarity urges medical institutions and professionals to unite against the National Health Insurance Bill. The union warns the NHI could have devastating consequences for the medical industry and South Africans’ health. It believes the bill is unconstitutional and lacks proper sustainability studies. The bill awaits president Cyril Ramaphosa’s signature, potentially bringing it into law soon. Solidarity’s Dirk Hermann says plans are in place to challenge the bill’s constitutionality in court and invites medical industry members to join their efforts.
# Airlines Lift and Airlink are set to request the domestic Air Service Licensing Council to suspend FlySafair’s operating licence. The request follows a complaint alleging FlySafair’s violation of domestic ownership regulations. The alleged non-compliance stems from changes in its ownership structure, triggering industry concern. FlySafair refutes the claim, and says it is a tactic to undermine customer confidence. The complaint will undergo deliberation next week.
# The Gauteng Department of Education today met with Glenvista High School principal Thobile Morgan in Johannesburg following a viral video showing a physical altercation between a teacher and two learners. News24 reports the incident involved a grade nine learner attempting to punch the teacher, leading to a scuffle where the teacher fell. The teacher then threw a chair at the learner, and another learner threw a desk. The department’s meeting with Morgan comes amidst concerns about discipline at the school, with reports of several fights between learners in recent weeks.
# Motorsport: It is the Miami Grand Prix this weekend with lots of speculation in Formula One around the future of Red Bull technical chief Adrian Newey. Several teams are keen to secure his services when he becomes available early next year after 19 very successful years with Red Bull. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc says it would be very exciting if the legendary designer joins them:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-52-cents and the euro at 19-rand-92-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-22-cents and Bitcoin trades at 61-thousand-702-dollars-29-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-288-dollars-50-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 83-dollars-48-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Deputy president Paul Mashatile has appealed to inter-faith communities to pray for peace and tolerance in the forthcoming general elections. He was speaking during the engagement between government and Western Cape inter-faith leaders in Cape Town.
