# Build One South Africa has challenged EFF leader Julius Malema to verify their 140-thousand signatures of support submitted to the Electoral Commission, following Malema’s scepticism. They accuse the leader of the red berets of questioning their legitimacy without evidence. The party urges Malema to disclose the funding sources for the EFF’s manifesto launches, suggesting possible involvement of illicit funds. BOSA’s Head of Elections Roger Solomons invites Malema to inspect the signatures outside the IEC offices in Tshwane on Wednesday:
# The Limpopo Health Department has announced plans to start the death registration of the identified remains of 42 people killed in an Easter weekend bus accident. This process precedes repatriation of the bodies to their families in Botswana. The crash near Mokopane claimed 45 lives, with only an eight-year-old girl surviving. MEC Phophi Ramathuba confirmed that new specimens are being collected for three samples:
# A power outage in the Johannesburg CBD has affected major hospitals – Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, Parklane Hospital, Brenthurst Clinic, and Rand Clinic. Customers in Berea, Hillbrow, Parktown, and surrounding areas have also been impacted. City Power attributes the outage to a burnt feeder-board at the Ridge substation. Meanwhile, thousands of residents in the east of Tshwane have been without power since a fire at Mooikloof substation last Wednesday. The city aims to restore power by Wednesday evening.
# An eleven-year-old child was killed last night after gunmen opened fire on farm dwellers in two houses in Ficksburg in the Free State. According to police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring the incident left six people wounded. Mophiring says the assailants then fled on foot to a waiting car parked along the R26. The motive for the attack remains unclear as investigations continue.
# Cricket: Two hundred participants from across South Africa will compete in the Blind Cricket Championships from 26 April to 1 May in North West. The national championship will unfold across three venues – Witrand Cricket Ground, Potchefstroom Boys High Cricket Ground, and the JB Marks Oval. Nine provincial teams will engage in T20 matches, with the semifinals and finals scheduled for the JB Marks Oval. The championship seeks to ensure equal opportunities for the blind.
