# President Cyril Ramaphosa says the 30th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is a significant moment for South Africa’s journey toward justice and unity. Speaking at the TRC Housing Reparations launch in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal, Ramaphosa highlighted efforts to restore land, and dignity, saying these actions help heal past injustices and strengthen national unity, and justice for all South Africans:
# Tshwane Metro Police Chief Yolande Faro has told the Madlanga Commission that SAPS Gauteng Organised Crime sergeant Fannie Nkosi had no right to interfere in TMPD procurement processes. Faro says she was unaware of any involvement. Faro stressed that any TMPD members implicated in wrongdoing will face disciplinary action. Responding to commissioner Sandile Khumalo on political interference, she denied being approached by politicians to influence tenders:
# The South African Insurance Association says storing petrol at home can have serious safety, environmental, and insurance risks. Reportedly, some consumers have begun storing large volumes of fuel amid uncertainty over future fuel supply, due to the Middle East conflict. SAIA says most municipalities allow only 20 to 25 litres of fuel in approved containers to be stored at a time, with this fuel used for common tools like lawn mowers. It adds that storing more fuel than the required limits constitutes a breach of several regulations.
# Foreign nationals in KuGompo City in the Eastern Cape are living in fear following the looting of several businesses during protests last week, which were triggered by the controversial coronation of a self-proclaimed Nigerian king. The Pakistan-South Africa Business Association condemns attacks in Buffalo City, saying Pakistani and other foreign business owners report losses and are pleading for heightened security ahead of planned fresh protests tomorrow.
# Rugby: The four South African teams can now return their focus to the United Rugby Championship after being eliminated from other European competitions. The Stormers and the Bulls lost in the Champions Cup and the Sharks in the Challenge Cup this weekend, while the Lions were eliminated earlier. The Stormers are currently second on the URC log and on course for a home quarterfinal. The Lions, the Bulls and the Sharks all still have their work cut out to finish among the top eight to advance.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-88-cents against the rand and the euro at 19-rand-51-cents.
