# Vehicles are torched as marchers demand the deportation of a self-proclaimed Nigerian King in the Eastern Cape
# The Department of Women says access to justice is the key to ending women’s economic exclusion
# And soccer: The Western Cape MEC Isaac Sileku backs the usage of a train for the match between Bafana Bafana and Panama
# Violence erupted in KuGompo City in the Eastern Cape as protesters demonstrated against the self-appointed Nigerian Igbo king. Vehicles and buildings, allegedly owned by foreign nationals, have been torched or damaged as traditional leaders lead the march, joined by controversial media figure Ngizwe Mchunu and March and March. Police were deployed to disperse the crowd, while protesters warn they may take further action if the government does not act quickly to deport the Nigerian king.
Meanwhile, ActionSA’s parliamentary leader Athol Trollip says South Africa’s sovereignty must be protected as Buffalo City residents march in KuGompo, formerly East London, to protest against the reported coronation. A ceremony was held to install Chief Solomon Ogbonna Eziko as the king of Igbo people in East London. Trollip says the move undermines South Africa’s constitution and recognition of traditional leadership:
# The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities says access to justice for women in South Africa remains a critical yet often overlooked driver of economic inclusion. It says the ability of women to access justice through courts, legal aid, and protection mechanisms is fundamental to unlocking economic opportunities. The department’s spokesperson, Cassius Selala, says that despite the country’s advanced legal framework, many women, especially in rural and township areas, struggle with high legal costs, limited awareness, and social challenges:
# Paintings by Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse worth millions of euros were stolen in a heist on a museum near the Italian city of Parma. Police say four masked men entered the Magnani Rocca Foundation villa recently. They were in and out within three minutes, but was interrupted by the museum’s alarm system, preventing them from stealing more. The institution is the latest to be subject to a heist following the brazen daylight robbery of priceless jewels from the Louvre in Paris last October.
# Soccer: The Cape Town Stadium gets ready to host tomorrow’s international friendly between Bafana Bafana and Panama, and Western Cape Mobility MEC, Isaac Sileku, is encouraging fans to use the train. The Passenger Rail Agency will increase affordable train services, park and ride facilities, and security to make travelling easier and smoother. Sileku says major sporting events are a great chance for residents to experience a revitalised rail system:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-14-cents against the rand and the euro at 19-rand-69-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-68-cents and Bitcoin trades at 67-thousand-866-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-565-dollars-91-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 107-dollars-1-cent a barrel.
