# Remains were found that are believed to be those of a missing journalist and his partner
# Former Chief Justice Raymond Zondo says the anti-corruption fight still has room to improve
#And rugby: The Sharks take continuity into the URC match against the Ospreys
# Police have discovered remains believed to be those of Pretoria-based journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Precious Mdhluli, who vanished in February. National police commissioner Fannie Masemola says the remains were found in a bush on the border connecting Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, facing charges including kidnapping and hijacking. Masemola says DNA tests will confirm the identities:
# Former Chief Justice Raymond Zondo says South Africa’s fight against corruption remains far from over, despite progress since the state capture commission. Speaking at the 15th Commonwealth Regional Conference for Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa, Zondo stressed that accountability and enforcement must be strengthened. He urged institutions to act decisively on the commission’s findings, warning that public trust depends on consistent and visible consequences for wrongdoing:
# AfriForum says the silence of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment minister, Dion George, over Tenbosch Mining’s application to establish a coal mine near the Kruger National Park is concerning. Last month, the organisation requested that the department and SANParks issue a public statement on their position regarding the application. AfriForum’s Lambert de Klerk says the country’s natural heritage cannot be sacrificed due to political inertia or administrative negligence:
# South Africa’s 2025 wine grape harvest has delivered excellent fruit quality due to mild, dry conditions that enhanced flavour, structure and acidity. The CEO of the industry body SA Wine, Rico Basson, reports a yield of 1.24-million tonnes from over 86-thousand hectares. Basson says this harvest underscores the resilience and commitment of the country’s growers and winemakers to elevate South African wine to greater heights. Celebrating Pinotage’s centenary, he stressed that this vintage strengthens South Africa’s global wine standing amid rising demand for premium, sustainable wines.
# Rugby: The Sharks will take continuity into their United Rugby Championship clash with Ospreys at Kings Park tomorrow. Head coach John Plumtree has largely stuck with the team that defeated Ulster 22-19 in Belfast two weeks ago. There’s just the one change to the pack with Dian Bleuler coming in for Ox Nché, while Siya Masuku replaces Jordan Hendrikse at flyhalf and Jurenzo Julius takes over from Lukhanyo Am at outside centre. The Durban side need just three log points from the final two weekends to ensure a home quarterfinal.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-11-cents and the euro at 20-rand-48-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-15-cents and Bitcoin trades at 99-thousand-427-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-358-dollars-19-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 61-dollars-71-cents a barrel.
