# The court case of a person linked to the kidnapping of journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdhluli has been moved from Mamelodi in Pretoria to KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga for jurisdictional reasons. Three more accused will appear in the same court later this week. A cross-province operation led to four arrests on Sunday, with one suspect reportedly last seen with the couple. Others were found with car parts believed to belong to Ndlovu. A multidisciplinary team is actively investigating the case. The couple disappeared in February.
# The Basic Education Department is working with provinces to address the lack of mathematics in 464 South African schools. The subject was dropped due to low demand and resource shortages. The department’s spokesperson, Seliki Tlhabane, told SABC News that strategic interventions will target affected schools by ensuring qualified teachers and free resources. The department aims to reignite interest and improve access to maths education nationwide.
# The Gauteng legislature’s Community Safety Committee has raised concerns after over 300 Ekurhuleni Metro Police officials were suspended for taking part in an illegal strike in March. Committee chairperson Bandile Masuku warned the mass suspension threatens public safety and traffic control, especially around OR Tambo Airport. He urges the City of Ekurhuleni to resolve the labour dispute quickly to restore essential policing services:
# AfriForum Youth has filed a formal Promotion of Access to Information Act application seeking clarity on North West University’s investigation into an incident at the Eikenhof women’s residence, allegedly involving a sangoma ritual. Despite the university’s claim that no evidence of such a ritual was found, AfriForum’s Yvonne Gerber calls for full disclosure of the investigation’s scope, findings, and follow-up actions:
# Rugby: Springbok flyhalf Manie Libbok will play his first match for the Stormers in four months in Saturday’s penultimate United Rugby Championship league encounter against the Dragons in Cape Town. He injured his knee in January. The match will be Bok player Damian Willemse’s 100th for the Stormers, while coach John Dobson also have the luxury of fit internationals Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Warrick Gelant. The Stormers are currently in sixth place on the log and the Dragons in 16th.
