# The Department of Health in Gauteng has launched a campaign to address the rising rates of teenage pregnancy in Tembisa, where over six-thousand cases were reported in Ekurhuleni alone. The department’s Motalatale Modiba says the campaign aims to promote healthy lifestyle choices and prevent teenage pregnancies, as the province recorded more than 24-thousand cases among girls between the ages of ten and 19 years:
# A 44-year-old police sergeant has been arrested after allegedly killing his wife and domestic worker at their home in Masisi, Vhembe District. Limpopo. He has been on the run since Tuesday. Police spokesperson, Hlulani Mashaba, says the sergeant was located following a coordinated operation and was apprehended after a shootout with police, which resulted in two officers being injured. He says the man is facing two counts of murder and attempted murder:
# Standard Bank recently blocked transactions in Brazil following a rise in fraud affecting South African clients. This measure, taken after fraudulent activities were linked to Brazilian transactions, comes as the bank already spends over one-billion-rand annually on cybersecurity. The bank says that the figure is likely to increase as criminals use artificial intelligence to achieve their desired outcomes. The bank aims to enhance security as cyber threats grow increasingly sophisticated, emphasising proactive alerts and client protections.
# Lebanon’s prime minister Najib Mikati accused Israel of rejecting a ceasefire after the Israeli military bombed the Hezbollah stronghold of south Beirut for the first time this week. At least ten strikes hit the southern suburbs before dawn after the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings. The strikes came a day after Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu met US officials to discuss a possible deal to end the war in Lebanon, ahead of Tuesday’s US presidential election.
# Soccer: Around 94-thousand fans are expected to stream to the Carling Knockout quarterfinal clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium tomorrow. All tickets have been sold. The Premier Soccer League has also confirmed gates will open at 3pm in an effort to get supporters to arrive early for the match which starts at 6pm. In their last game this week Amakhosi only managed to salvage a draw with Magesi in Polokwane. The Brazilians are brimming with confidence after a 3-0 win over Cape Town City at Loftus.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-55-cents and the euro at 19-rand-9-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-74-cents and Bitcoin trades at 70-thousand-267-dollars-60-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-760-dollars-14-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 74-dollars-55-cents a barrel.
