# The MK Party has appointed ex-Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane and former ANC veteran Willies Mchunu as provincial conveners for Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, respectively. Mkhwebane’s transition to the party comes after her resignation from the EFF last week, shortly after Mchunu stepped down from the ANC. MK Party secretary general Sifiso Maseko told the media Mkhwebane will tackle key issues in Mpumalanga, while Mchunu’s political experience will help strengthen the party’s presence in KZN:
# The DA has expressed outrage over recent mass shootings in Cape Town which left several people dead. Spokesperson Ian Cameron criticises the South African Police Service’s response, stating that merely deploying more officials won’t address the underlying issues. He advocates for shared policing responsibilities between national, provincial and local authorities to improve efficiency and tackle gang violence effectively:
# Alleged rapist and killer Pethe Sara Simiao has appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto in connection with the death of six-year-old Amantle Semane. Community members searching for the child found her lifeless body in a shack in Orlando East. Simiao was arrested in Zola on Wednesday and faces four counts, including murder and kidnapping. The case was postponed to 1 November for a bail application.
# Soccer: African champions Banyana Banyana take on Denmark at 6 tonight in their first-ever international match at Aalborg Stadium. The friendly encounter is seen as key preparation for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. They will also face England on Tuesday. # And finally: Reach for a Dream is launching eight new Dream Rooms in hospitals across the country. It says these vibrant spaces will offer children a playful escape from the challenges of long-term treatments, allowing them to rediscover the joys of childhood. Hospitals including Tygerberg in Cape Town, Steve Biko in Tshwane and Charlotte Maxeke in Johannesburg, will host these healing spaces by year-end, bringing the total number of Dream Rooms nationwide to 46.
