# RISE Mzansi’s National Assembly caucus whip, Makashule Gana, has expressed deep concern over the latest quarterly crime statistics. The party says the statistics highlight the alarming rates of violence in South Africa, particularly against women. On average, 68 people are murdered, and 102 rapes are reported daily. Gana called for urgent action, including halving the murder rate. He also pledged RISE Mzansi’s support for Police minister Senzo Mchunu’s efforts to create a safer South Africa:
# AfriForum has cautioned against publishing regulations under the National Health Insurance Act. The organisation cited concerns including the act’s pending promulgation, ongoing constitutional challenges, and the need for public consultation. Campaign manager Louis Boshoff argues the regulations are premature and could be overturned if the NHI is declared unconstitutional:
# Dear South Africa says the country’s equine industry has been facing a growing crisis over the last five to seven years, as the shortage of African horse sickness vaccines continues to affect horse owners, breeders, and the broader equestrian community. DearSA’s spokesperson, Nolu Maki, says the organisation has launched a public poll to gather vital insights from those directly impacted by this shortage. She says a breakthrough was reached when the first direct shipment of horses from South Africa to the EU in 14 years, recently took place with a consignment of 32 horses.
# Rugby: Springbok loose forward Ben-Jason Dixon is on the rise and is set to face the biggest challenge of his short international career. The 26-year-old will make his fourth appearance for South Africa tomorrow, when he starts their Rugby Championship game against New Zealand at Ellis Park. Dixon says it’s a dream come true to play for Boks against the All Blacks:
