# Police are searching for a suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a woman on a Metrobus in Fleurhof, Roodepoort this morning. It is alleged that the woman was boarding the bus heading to Sunninghill where she reportedly worked for a bank. City of Johannesburg mayoral committee member for Transport, Kenny Kunene, has condemned the shooting and has called on authorities to ensure the suspect is arrested:
# KwaZulu-Natal premier Thami Ntuli has called for ongoing support for residents of Tongaat following a recent tornado. He urges social partners and donors to provide food aid. The storm caused extensive damage, killing twelve people and displacing over one-thousand-200 families, with losses exceeding 1.3-billion-rand. Ntuli stresses the urgency of rebuilding efforts to restore normalcy for affected residents:
# Today marks the second anniversary of the Enyobeni tavern tragedy in Scenery Park, East London, where 21 victims died at a pens down party. Tavern owners Siyakhangela and Vuyokazi Ndevu were found guilty of selling alcohol to minors and fined five-thousand-rand. National Liquor Traders Council convener, Lucky Ntimane, emphasises the need for enhanced structures to ensure minors don’t have access to alcohol:
# Bodybuilding: The University of Fort Hare says Zolile Valiphatwa, Buhle Nontswabu, Nsikelelo Khatywa, Smilo Mngweba and Alivile Dasha of Fort Hare’s bodybuilding team flex their muscles in preparation for the University Sports South Africa tournament in Vanderbijlpark on Sunday. One of Fort Hare’s favourite sons, double South African bodybuilding champion Chris Nguta, has returned to his alma mater to prepare its 13-member team for this year’s USSA tournament. The 36-year-old former national bantam and welterweight titleholder came on board in April.
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-19-cents and the euro at 19-rand-42-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-99-cents and Bitcoin trades at 61-thousand-434-dollars-72-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-303-dollars-38-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 84-dollars-13-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Nine Louisiana families have sued the state over a new law that orders every public school classroom to display a poster of the Ten Commandments. The law is the first of its kind in the US, and governs all classrooms up to, and including university. The complaint, backed by civil rights groups, claims that such a display violates the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion, and that the display “pressures” students into adopting the state’s favoured religion.
