# The Electoral Commission will soon release a draft code of conduct on misinformation for public comment ahead of the November 4 local government elections. Speaking in Midrand, CEO Sy Mamabolo said the code aims to protect the integrity of the electoral process from manipulated and fraudulent online content on social media. He confirmed the commission is working with civil society groups to strengthen safeguards against disinformation:
# The DA says Parliament’s impeachment process linked to the Phala Phala matter must continue despite president Cyril Ramaphosa’s court review application. The party urges Parliament to urgently finalise the rules and terms of reference for the impeachment committee, in line with a Constitutional Court order. Spokesperson George Michalakis criticises Ramaphosa’s plan to possibly seek an interdict against Parliament. He warns this could lead to unnecessary delays and may damage Parliament’s credibility:
# Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan has warned that sensitive information on electronic devices seized during a police raid at his Houghton home could lead to assassinations, and compromise national security operations. He approached the High Court in Johannesburg yesterday, emphasising the devices contain highly sensitive intelligence information, details linked to undercover agents, and ongoing investigations. Khan also requested any downloaded information from the devices be permanently deleted. He was arrested earlier this month in connection with alleged unlawful possession of unwrought gold.
# The National Department of Health says it is digitising procurement systems to help curb corruption in public hospitals. Health minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced the reforms during a visit to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. This follows criticism over delays in repairing the hospital after the 2021 fire. Motsoaledi says electronic procurement will improve transparency and accountability by involving hospital staff directly in purchasing decisions and reducing opportunities for corruption across the healthcare system.
# Soccer: Mamelodi Sundowns chairperson, Thlopie Motsepe, has praised the players, coaching staff and supporters following the club’s second CAF Champions League title. He says the team showed resilience and unity throughout a difficult season, especially after disappointment in Cairo, Egypt, earlier in the campaign. Motsepe credited coach Miguel Cardoso for adding determination and strength to Sundowns’ traditional attacking style:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-31-cents and the euro at 19-rand-2-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-94-cents and Bitcoin trades at 75-thousand-745-dollars.
