# FlySafair and its labour union reach a four-year deal on compensation

# South Africa’s largest airline, FlySafair, says it reached an agreement with cabin crew, ending a deadlock over compensation a week before the country hosts world leaders at the G20 summit. FlySafair says it sealed a four-year pact with the South African Cabin Crew Association, without disclosing details. The carrier started locking out crew more than a week ago as talks stalled. The airline, which controls 60-percent of the domestic market and transports about 300-thousand passengers daily, maintained throughout its operations weren’t affected.
# ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa insists the party is legally protecting its identity in the Supreme Court of Appeal hearing against the MK Party over the use of the Umkhonto we Sizwe name and logo. MK says the heritage belongs to all veterans of the liberation struggle. The proceedings are focusing on intellectual property, copyright, and trademark arguments. Ramaphosa said in Kliptown, Soweto, they await the verdict:
# At least eight people have been shot in Wentworth, Durban, leaving two dead and six others wounded. The incident unfolded today when attackers reportedly exited their vehicle and opened fire on a group of people sitting near a block of flats. Emergency services responded swiftly, but two victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene. KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt as investigations continue into the motive behind the brutal attack.
# The Public Servants Association says it is dismayed by the state of the Department of Employment and Labour, which is currently operating with a 44-percent vacancy rate. According to a recent report, the department currently has some three-thousand-924 vacancies. PSA’s Claude Naicker says minister of Employment and Labour, Nomakhosazana Meth, must act promptly and decisively by prioritising the filling of vacancies, replacing the outdated ICT system, and addressing non-compliant buildings:
# Rugby: Forty-two players have been invited to a week-long Springbok Women’s alignment camp in Cape Town. The group consist of 21 players who represented South Africa at the World Cup in England in September, and several who excelled at the Under-20 Women’s Week in Johannesburg last month. Coach Swys de Bruin says the camp will allow them the opportunity to look at some of the young players to get a better understanding of their abilities amongst the senior players.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-12-cents and the euro at 19-rand-92-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-52-cents and Bitcoin trades at 94-thousand-4-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-112-dollars-24-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-45-cents a barrel.
