# Acting Police minister Firoz Cachalia has announced the secondment of Major General Susan Pienaar as Chief of Staff and Sefura Matlala as Personal Assistant in his office. Pienaar moves from SAPS Visible Policing and Operations, while Matlala joins from the Special Investigating Unit. Spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi says the reshuffle follows the Madlanga Judicial Commission of Inquiry, which named the current Chief of Staff, ensuring continuity and stability:
# Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, has condemned the killing of National Taxi Association chairperson Thamsanqa Moyo. He was shot dead on the Soweto Highway on Thursday, in what is believed to be a hit related to the ongoing taxi violence. No arrests have been made. The MEC’s spokesperson, Lesiba Mpya, says this senseless act of violence has left a painful mark on his family, colleagues, and the broader transport sector:
# ActionSA MP Kgosi Letlape, father of Thembekile Letlape, says no justice has been served in the 15-year prison sentence handed to Sibusiso Zitha for murdering his daughter. Zitha had confessed to stabbing her multiple times in their Fourways home. He adds the sentence falls short of the maximum he had hoped for and serves as a stark reminder of the challenges women seeking justice:
# Israel shut the sole gateway between the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Jordan until further notice, after a driver bringing humanitarian aid from Jordan for Gaza on Thursday opened fire and killed two Israeli military personnel. The Allenby Bridge is a key route for trade between Jordan and Israel and the only gateway for more than three-million Palestinians in the West Bank to reach Jordan and the wider world. The two crossings between Israel itself and Jordan were also affected, with the Jordan River crossing shut and the Rabin crossing open only for workers.
# Tennis: World number one Carlos Alcaraz returns to the court today when he headlines a Team Europe side aiming to retain the Laver Cup title against Team World. This year’s edition of the global tennis showdown will see some changes at Chase Arena, home of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. France’s Yannick Noah takes over from Bjorn Borg as captain of Team Europe while American André Agassi is the new captain of Team World, succeeding John McEnroe. Europe won’t have world number two Jannik Sinner or fourth-ranked superstar Novak Djokovic.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-39-cents and the euro at 20-rand-42-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-44-cents and Bitcoin trades at 116-thousand-281-dollars.
