# IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya says South Africa must urgently reform its political funding laws to prevent secret money and unfair advantage from undermining democracy. Speaking at the IEC’s first political funding symposium in Durban, Moepya warned that current rules may still benefit bigger parties. He urged Parliament to strengthen transparency, increase public funding, ensure fair access for smaller parties and independent candidates, and improve enforcement to safeguard free and open elections:

# Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has condemned the fatal stabbing of a Grade 11 learner from Lesedi Secondary School in Lethabong, east of Pretoria, by a Grade 12 learner. The suspect allegedly attacked the victim outside the premises after school. The boy was declared dead at a local clinic. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says that psychologists and the School Safety Unit have been deployed, urging safer school environments for learners:
# US filmmaker and playwright Tyler Perry has been hit with a 4.6-billion-rand lawsuit by The Oval actor Derek Dixon alleging sexual harassment, assault, and retaliation. Dixon, who appeared in Perry’s show, claims he exploited his influence to pressure him into a sexual relationship. The 46-page suit details repeated incidents from 2019 to ’21. Perry’s legal team denies the claims, calling them fabricated and a shakedown attempt. Dixon is demanding a jury trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
# Cricket: Proteas Test captain Temba Bavuma says the support from South Africans after their World Test Championship victory over Australia has been overwhelming. He was speaking after the team touched down at the OR Tambo Airport in Gauteng on their return from England, where they won the final at Lord’s in London. Bavuma praised the team effort and said they were proud to have done it the proper South African way:
