# The minister of Water and Sanitation, Pemmy Majodina, says her department needs almost 90-billion-rand to address the infrastructure backlog that is hampering access to clean water for all South Africans. She responded to a written parliamentary question by BOSA deputy leader, Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster. BOSA spokesperson, Roger Solomons says there have been attempts by the minister to pass the blame for South Africa’s water supply crisis from her department onto municipalities:
Meanwhile, the City of Tshwane has reported that its reservoirs’ water levels are critically low due to a power trip at the Palmiet booster pump station. In efforts to aid recovery, Rand Water has opened additional inlet valves into Hartebeesthoek Reservoir, aiming to reach 40-percent capacity. City spokesperson Selby Bokaba says some Atteridgeville areas have started receiving water, while the Reeds and Lotus Reservoirs remain empty:
# The Pan South African Language Board will consult with interested groups on the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act. CEO Lance Schultz emphasised to Newzroom Afrika the board’s commitment to protecting mother-tongue education and preventing language-based exclusion. He says the board will mediate on linguistic rights, advocating bilingual education to support South Africa’s diverse, multilingual society:
# Soccer: France refuses to cancel next week’s Nations League match against Israel in Paris because of recent violence directed at Israeli fans in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. French police announced they will deploy over two-thousand members around the Stade de France to secure Thursday’s game, and cordon off an unusually large security perimeter. Interior minister Bruno Retailleau announced France wouldn’t back down since that would amount to giving up in the face of threats and anti-Semitism.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-52-cents and the euro at 18-rand-89-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-72-cents and Bitcoin trades at 76-thousand-172-dollars-15-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-689-dollars-41-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 74-dollars-92-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Donald Trump’s former attorney, Rudy Giuliani, has until the end of next week to give the lawyers of two women he defamed the keys and title of his classic car. A federal judge ruled Giuliani also has to send Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss two dozen watches, furniture and sports memorabilia, or otherwise face contempt sanctions. He falsely accused the two Georgia election workers of fraud during the 2020 election. Giuliani previously was told by the judge to give them his most valuable and sentimental possessions by last Tuesday.
