# President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for stronger global cooperation and reform of the United Nations Security Council at the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. He urged BRICS nations to promote peace and development, while expressing support for Palestinian rights. Ramaphosa stated that the current structure fails to represent the global community’s interests and has been ineffective in maintaining international peace and security:
Meanwhile, the DA says Ramaphosa’s remarks calling Russia a valuable ally could harm South Africa’s international relations and economic growth. The DA, part of the government of national unity, disagrees with aligning with an authoritarian regime like Russia, due to its involvement in a war in Ukraine. DA leader John Steenhuisen urged government to ensure consensus on foreign policy decisions to avoid jeopardising trade and international relations.
# Home Affairs minister Leon Schreiber has confirmed the cancellation of documents belonging to Chidimma Adetshina’s mother. Schreiber told the SABC that Adetshina, now Miss Universe Nigeria, is not guilty of immigration violations, as she was an infant. Bangladesh will resume their second innings on 283 for seven tomorrow after Kagiso Rabada claimed four scalps and Keshav Maharaj three.
