# Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has hinted at a possible policy intervention to prevent Eskom’s proposed 36-percent electricity price hike for the 2025/’26 financial year. Public submissions on the tariff hike are open until 1 November. Speaking at the Standard Bank climate summit in Johannesburg, Ramokgopa stated that suspending certain government policies could provide relief, particularly for low-income households:
Staying with climate affairs: The South African Weather Service forecasts a La Niña event this December and January, bringing above-average rainfall to the southern region. Lead scientist Christien Engelbrecht warns of a potential summer heatwave, urging South Africans to stay hydrated to prevent heat-related fatalities. She warns of high temperatures expected across the country during this period:
# Tshwane city manager Johann Mettler has condemned municipal employees for mistreating former mayor Cilliers Brink after his ousting. According to News24, Mettler warned that if the despicable behaviour displayed during a council meeting continues, he will implement consequences. Brink was removed from his position with a motion of no confidence vote and faced a hostile crowd as he left. Mettler calls for the workplace to remain free from political conflict and urges everyone to show respect and dignity to all elected officials.
# Cricket: India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the second Test in Kanpur to clinch the series 2-0 after their 280-run victory in the first encounter in Chennai. The hosts needed just 95 runs in their second innings on the final day after bowling the visitors out for 146. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each in Bangladesh’s second innings, and India reached the target within 18 overs with three wickets down. The two countries will also play three T20s.
