# National police commissioner, Fannie Masemola, is today leading a high-level delegation in Maseru, Lesotho, under the National Joint Operation and intelligence Structure to meet the Lesotho Mounted Police Service delegation led by Borotho Matsoso. # Union Giwusa demands a fighting strategy from government over the US tariffs on South African exports, not capitalist surrender. Government failed to negotiate a trade deal with America before the August 1 deadline, with the country now hit by a 30-percent tariff on exports to its second-largest trade partner. Giwusa president Mametlwe Sebei says this crisis represents both a moment of grave economic peril and an opportunity:
# Ten police members have been arrested for theft and corruption linked to a June operation at Edenvale police station in Gauteng. According to SABC News, the group includes six officials from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department and four from the Tsakane police station. They allegedly raided shops during an operation but failed to book in confiscated items and thousands of rands in cash. Investigations led to their arrest, and the officials are expected to appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, the DA is calling for an independent and transparent inquiry into alleged financial and operational mismanagement at the Police College in Philippi, Cape Town. The college is facing allegations of procurement irregularities and exploitation of trainees. The DA’s Lisa Schickerling says Parliament’s portfolio committee on Police witnessed first-hand the shocking state of disrepair at the college, allegations of sexual harassment, drug use, intimidation, and the absence of basic infrastructure:
# Cricket: India won a nail-biting fifth and final Test against England to square the series 2-all. The hosts resumed their second innings on the final day at the Oval just 35-runs short but with just four wickets left. Gus Atkinson succeeded in shielding him from batting, but was eventually bowled out. Mohammed Siraj took five wickets.
