# The case against murder accused Grayson Beare has been postponed in the Durban Magistrate’s Court to the 24th of this month. Beare allegedly killed Halima Hoosen-Preston, a mother of two, over her support for Palestine. Beare, who allegedly stabbed Hoosen-Preston 15 times, also faces two counts of attempted murder for allegedly stabbing her husband, Shaun, and their 14-year-old son. Three psychiatrists and a clinical health expert will assess Beare’s mental state before the next court date.
# ActionSA has urged the Director of Public Prosecutions to act following the Life Esidimeni inquest verdict by the High Court in Pretoria. The inquest, probing the deaths of over 140 psychiatric patients, found former Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu and former Mental Health head Makgabo Manamela culpable of negligence. ActionSA member of Parliament, Kgosi Letlape, calls for their criminal prosecution, emphasising the need for accountability and justice for the victims and their families.
# Utshalo founder Paul Miller highlighted the need to enhance South Africa’s public markets by enabling smaller investors to participate more actively in the Northern Cape’s copper projects. Orion Minerals is facilitating this through a share purchase plan for South African shareholders. This initiative aims to boost local ownership and investment in mining projects, addressing capital raising challenges in the country’s mining sector. Miller stresses the importance of fostering broader participation in mining ventures:
# Rugby: Veteran prop James Slipper will captain the Wallabies in Saturday’s second Test against Wales in Melbourne in place of Liam Wright, who was injured during last weekend’s 25-16 victory over the Welshman in the first Test in Sydney. Charlie Cale, who replaced Wright, gets his first start at number eight, while Rob Valetini moves to blindside flanker. This is the only change Joe Schmidt made to his starting 15. He has the utmost trust in Slipper’s leadership:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-7-cents and the euro at 19-rand-61-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-27-cents and Bitcoin trades at 58-thousand-587-dollars-96-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-381-dollars-99-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 85-dollars-14-cents a barrel.
# And finally, Cape Town International and OR Tambo are amongst the top ten best airports in the world. Cape Town Airport is second, while OR Tambo is sixth in AirHelp’s 2024 ranking. Airports are ranked in categories including on-time performance, and passenger insight into the facilities. Hamad International Airport in Qatar tops the list. Airports Company South Africa says this recognition shows that the hard work is paying off, as they endeavour to ensure that the country’s airports offer among the best facilities in the world.
