# An AfriForum report examining 47 violent farm attacks between 2019 and 2025 shows a recurring pattern of torture. The report titled “More than robbery” says victims endured burning, stabbing, strangulation and sexual abuse. AfriForum’s Jacques Broodryk says the attacks occur in every province. He is calling on government to recognise farm attacks as a priority crime requiring a specialised response and to condemn rhetoric such as Kill the Boer:

# Suspended Crime Intelligence Sergeant Fannie Nkosi wants the National Prosecuting Authority to reconsider charges against him. Nkosi made a brief appearance in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court this morning. He faces firearm-related charges and defeating the ends of justice after a raid at his home in April, and charges for allegedly impersonating a senior officer and stealing marijuana in Thohoyandou. His lawyer, Katlego Raleho, says written representations will be submitted to the director of Public Prosecutions within two weeks.

# The South African Local Government Association, through its National Women’s Commission, has condemned the continued and brutal murder of women in Kempton Park and across the country. This follows the discovery of six women’s bodies in the Kempton Park area over a two-month period. SALGA’s Nomvuyo Mposelwa is calling for urgent, decisive and coordinated action to end the violence and protect women from further harm:

Moving abroad:

# Yemen’s Iranian-aligned Houthis launched a new wave of attacks on Saudi Arabia and dug into positions on Yemen’s west coast, along the Red Sea. Urgent deliberations took place in the Saudi capital of Riyadh over how to respond. Meanwhile, Gulf Arab states postponed planned talks with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns the ‌Middle Eastern conflict could expand and further threaten global oil supplies. The Houthis’ recent advances, including the taking of Perim Island, have put further pressure on Saudi oil exports.

# Cricket: Zimbabwean Brendan Taylor overtook Sachin Tendulkar as the world’s longest-serving one-day international player. The Indian great retired from the format in 2012 after playing for 22-years-and-three-months. Forty-year-old Taylor improved that to 22-years-and-four-months in the first ODI against Australia, currently being played in Harare. He made his debut for his country in 2004 and played 207 matches since, scoring over six-thousand-700 runs, including 11 centuries.

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-25-cents and the euro at 18-rand-75-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-91-cents and Bitcoin trades at 76-thousand-959-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-283-dollars-96-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 107-dollars-27-cents a barrel.
