# Three Lesotho nationals are arrested over the Cleveland shooting that left 13 dead
# A shipping expert says market uncertainty is keeping tankers at sea
# And soccer: France will play their last World Cup group match without their coach after his mother’s death
# Three Lesotho nationals have been arrested in connection with the mass shooting at Jumpers informal settlement in Cleveland, Johannesburg, earlier this month that left 13 people dead and 14 others injured. They were arrested at the KwaMaiMai informal settlement following an intensive investigation involving several specialised law enforcement units. Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says the three men are expected to appear in court on charges of murder and attempted murder tomorrow:
# Shipping expert John Ingpen says global market uncertainty is keeping oil tankers at sea for longer periods as operators respond to shifting oil prices and changing demand. He says several vessels are currently waiting offshore near Cape Town, with some slow-steaming or drifting while awaiting instructions. Ingpen explains destinations can change multiple times during a voyage as traders react to market conditions. He adds Cape Town remains a key global shipping point, where tankers are often held offshore.
# The DA says the City of Johannesburg is facing a fuel crisis that has left some municipal vehicles unable to operate, threatening service delivery. The party’s Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku says departments and entities, including Johannesburg Water and Pikitup, are affected by suspended refuelling services. She says a metro that cannot afford fuel also cannot afford additional ten-billion-rand financial commitments for a wage deal, that place even more pressure on already stretched finances:
# Free State MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Affairs, Elsabé Rockman, says the province has surpassed the one-million mark in vaccinating livestock against foot-and-mouth disease. The milestone forms part of South Africa’s broader effort to contain outbreaks and protect the livestock industry through the national rollout of vaccines to combat the disease. Rockman told SABC News continued vaccinations and strict biosecurity measures remain critical to prevent further spread:
# Soccer: France will play its final World Cup group match against Norway on Friday without coach Didier Deschamps, who returned home after his mother’s death. His assistant, Guy Stephan, will be in charge until he returns. The two-time champions have already qualified for the round of 32 after beating Senegal and Iraq in their first matches, and will top Group I if they beat the Norwegians. Deschamps will leave France after 14 years at the conclusion of the tournament. He led them to the title in 2018.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-63-cents and the euro at 18-rand-86-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-88-cents and Bitcoin trades at 62-thousand-291-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-and-42-dollars-83-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 75-dollars-41-cents a barrel.
