# The Muslim Judicial Council has proposed a three-pronged national framework to address migration in South Africa. The council calls for a humane and sustainable approach. Its proposal emphasises adherence to the rule of law, protection of migrants’ human rights and dignity, and comprehensive interventions to address governance and socio-economic challenges driving tensions. The council’s Faizal Sayed told SABC News African nations must reflect on the underlying causes of migration:
# An inspector of the Ekurhuleni Metropolice in Gauteng, Witness K, has told the Madlanga commission suspended deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi asked her to pass on information linked to mining activities in exchange for money. Mkhwanazi’s former girlfriend says she shared information about suspected illegal precious stones. The woman testified Mkhwanazi wanted information he could work on, with the expectation that would result in financial rewards:
# ActionSA has condemned minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Dean Macpherson’s decision to institute legal proceedings against Parliament after he was sanctioned for breaching the Code of Ethical Conduct over racist remarks in which he called ActionSA’s supporters “Amapharas” and “Hobos”. The party’s Alan Beesley says instead of apologising, Macpherson has chosen to drag Parliament to court in an attempt to overturn the consequences of his own conduct:
# Rugby: New All Blacks captain Ardie Savea relishes the challenge of leading the three-time champion to next year’s World Cup in Australia. New coach, Dave Rennie, appointed him when announcing his squad for the home Nations Championship Tests. Savea takes over from injured Scott Barrett. 2023’s world player of the year says he is lucky to have great people, leaders and coaches within the set-up. New Zealand plays France in Christchurch on 4 July, Italy in Wellington on the 11th and Ireland in Auckland a week later.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-48-cents and the euro at 18-rand-76-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-77-cents and Bitcoin trades at 62-thousand-545-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-124-dollars-89-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-50-cents a barrel.
# And finally: A non-profit company, Missing in Southern Africa, launched a regional initiative to strengthen cooperation in tracing missing persons and supporting affected families across Southern Africa. Founded by missing persons activist Wendy Pascoe, the organisation says it will focus on South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia. Pascoe says the initiative aims to improve cross-border information sharing, assist investigations, support law enforcement agencies, and combat human trafficking. She says they seek to provide advocacy and victim support, and reunite missing persons with their families.
