# The Referendum Party calls for the suspension of a Stellenbosch official following a racial video
# And rugby: Sean Fitzpatrick believes the All Blacks have a good chance against the ‘tired’ Springboks
# The ANC says it salutes South African activists who joined the Global Sumud Flotilla in solidarity with the Palestinian people. The party described their mission as a non-violent stand against Israel’s blockade of Gaza and a powerful statement for justice and human rights. ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu says the flotilla echoes South Africa’s own struggle for liberation. Bhengu urged the government to provide full support to citizens participating in this international solidarity mission.
# Union Giwusa has welcomed the fuel price decreases for this month. President Mametlwe Sebei says the decrease in diesel prices is particularly significant, as it may slightly ease the pressure on the logistics chains that supply the country with essential goods. He says the union maintains that the current fuel pricing model and the oil industry are fundamentally unjust:
# The Referendum Party is calling for the suspension of Stellenbosch Municipality’s human resources manager, Alexander Kannemeyer, following allegations of racial discrimination in a leaked video. The party’s Robert King says while the municipality has since announced an investigation, it is troubling that mayor Jeremy Fasser has sought to distance himself from responsibility. He says until the investigation is complete, Kannemeyer should be suspended, and if found guilty of pushing racial discrimination, should be dismissed:
# The ANC Youth League says its rejects the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition’s proposals to amend the National Credit Act, which include the reckless suggestion that student debt be listed with credit bureaus. Spokesperson Zama Khanyase says such a move would tighten the debt trap around young people from the working class and black communities who already carry the heaviest burden of exclusion:
# Rugby: New Zealand great Sean Fitzpatrick says he is confident of the All Blacks’ chances against South Africa in the Rugby Championship. The two nations will clash in the first of two Tests at Eden Park on Saturday. The 62-year-old former captain says the All Blacks will be desperate for a victory over the Springboks, who are looking tired. Fitzpatrick, who was the last All Blacks captain to taste defeat at Eden Park, believes Scott Robertson’s team is in a fairly good place heading into the clash.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-63-cents and the euro at 20-rand-52-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-62-cents and Bitcoin trades at 111-thousand-494-dollars.
