# The GOOD Party says Cape flats residents meet all the criteria for US refugee status besides their skin colour
# Fikile Mbalula says Ramaphosa’s planned visit to the US will dispel misconceptions of genocide against Afrikaners
# And rugby: A former England scrumhalf hangs up his boots
# The GOOD Party says many residents of the gang-ravaged Cape Flats should qualify for consideration by the US as potential refugees. The party says the only reason they do not is colour. GOOD secretary-general Brett Herron says South Africa’s official crime statistics for the final quarter of last year recorded a single murder of a white farmer. He says that is the genocide the Trump administration appears to have bought hook, line and sinker from AfriForum:
Meanwhile, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says president Cyril Ramaphosa’s planned working visit to the US will denounce the claims of genocide against white Afrikaners. He was speaking at the sidelines at the ANC’s Duma Nokwe Memorial Lecture, in the Sedibeng Municipality in Gauteng. Mbalula emphasised to SABC News the visit will show South Africa’s sovereignty and hopefully mend relations between the two countries:
# Road Traffic Management Corporation CEO Makhosini Msibi says bribery of officials by drivers is rising, especially among those arrested for drunk driving. Briefing Parliament, he warned that the belief drivers can buy their way out is fuelling this trend. Msibi says pedestrian behaviour, speeding, and drunk driving remain key causes of road deaths, with pedestrians accounting for 41-percent of annual fatalities. He calls for urgent action to address these issues and improve road safety.
# BOSA leader Mmusi Maimane has launched the party’s Budget to the People initiative. Finance minister Enoch Godongwana is expected to table the third budget speech and fiscal framework before Parliament next week Wednesday. BOSA’s spokesperson, Roger Solomons, says they begun a Budget to the People initiative, a national mobilisation effort to bring the voices of South Africans to the centre of the budget process:
# Rugby: Former England scrumhalf Danny Care has announced he will retire at the end of this season. The 38-year-old won 101 caps for England over 16 years and called time on his international career after last year’s Six Nations. He featured at two World Cups and was part of England’s Grand Slam-winning team of 2016, also lifting Six Nations titles in 2011 and 2017. Care has played nearly 400 times for Harlequins, winning the Premiership twice and the Challenge Cup in 2011.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-24-cents and the euro at 20-rand-46-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-31-cents and Bitcoin trades at 103-thousand-917-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-238-dollars-25-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 65-dollars-55-cents a barrel.
