# The DA in KwaZulu-Natal says a collapse of the government of national unity could spell disaster for the province. The party’s caucus in the legislature welcomes renewed talks to resolve the national budget impasse, but ongoing instability at national level threatens the stability of the government of provincial unity. The DA’s Francois Rodgers urges all GNU partners to put principle before politics to safeguard jobs, economic progress, and efforts to tackle poverty:
# The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority has rejected claims that proposed firearm regulations will hinder private security firms. The draft amendments, published by Police minister Senzo Mchunu, remain open for comment until 25 April. PSiRA clarified that the regulations won’t ban firearms or limit ammunition but aim to enhance oversight. It welcomes public input and is committed to ensuring regulations support the industry while tackling non-compliance and rogue operators.
# The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate says it will implement a restriction on large tour buses from entering Upper Wale Street in Bo-Kaap. These are buses with 36 seats and more. Certain parking restrictions will also apply. Mayoral committee member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, says these interventions are in response to complaints from residents about the congestion caused by large tour buses in the popular tourism attraction:
# Soccer: Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool, keeping him at Anfield until 2027. His current contract was set to expire at the end of this season. The 32-year-old has helped fire Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table with 27 goals and 17 assists this season. Salah says he is excited to continue playing for the Reds and winning more trophies:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 19-rand-25-cents and the euro at 21-rand-81-cents. One British pound costs 25-rand-15-cents and Bitcoin trades at 82-thousand-491-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-221-dollars-83-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 62-dollars-98-cents a barrel.
# And finally: A major Australian fertility clinic has apologised for giving the wrong embryo to a woman who then gave birth to another couple’s baby. Monash IVF operates more than 100 clinics across Australia. The clinic has not named the couples involved, nor has it responded to questions about when the baby was born, or who has custody of the child, out of respect for the couples’ privacy. The error occurred in the state of Queensland, where the law recognises the birth mother and her partner as the child’s legal parents.
