# Deputy president Paul Mashatile has criticised DA ministers for remaining in the cabinet after voting against the national budget. In his address at the Ahmed Kathrada Legacy Business Breakfast in Gauteng, Mashatile questioned the DA’s continued participation in the government of national unity while rejecting its key fiscal plan, adding that such actions undermine unity and accountability:
# Three people were shot and killed in Mofolo, Soweto, this morning, leading to road closures. According to police reports, occupants of one vehicle opened fire on three people seated in another vehicle. The motive remains unknown, and no arrests have been made. Authorities are urging residents to provide any information that could assist in the investigation. It is still unclear if it is related to taxi violence.
# The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority has joined the Medical Device Single Audit Programme as an affiliate member. This global initiative allows SAHPRA to collaborate with international regulators to improve oversight of medical device manufacturers. The move expands SAHPRA’s reach beyond South Africa’s borders and will enhance regulation of medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics by sharing resources and audit findings with other participating nations.
# Soccer: Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said it would be crazy to consider the Red Devils as Premier League contenders next season but believe he must turn around the club’s fortunes quickly. United sits 13th in the Premier League after taking just 22 points from Amorim’s first 19 games in the English top-flight. They are 36 points behind leaders Liverpool, who are on course to match United’s record of 20 English top-flight titles. United’s co-owner, Ineos, had outlined their ambition to win a 21st league crown by the club’s 150th anniversary in 2028.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 19-rand-33-cents and the euro at 21-rand-16-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-77-cents and Bitcoin trades at 76-thousand-800-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-and-40-dollars-86-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-13-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Over 300 delegates to the Africa Children’s Summit have called for their inclusion in policy formations that affect African children. The summit concludes in Johannesburg today.
