# The City of Cape Town works around the clock to repair weather-damaged infrastructure
# And, tennis: Experts rejoice over the return of a one-handed backhand player to Wimbledon’s semifinal
# AfriForum is set to lay charges of corruption, fraud, and money laundering against EFF leaders Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu. This follows allegations from VBS Mutual Bank’s former chairperson, Tshifhiwa Matodzi, implicating the EFF in receiving millions of rand in bribes. AfriForum’s Kallie Kriel says its legal team will file the charges and has asked lawyer Gerrie Nel to oversee the case. He warns of possible private prosecution if the National Prosecuting Authority delays:
# Eskom says it has restored power to over five-thousand households in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, despite cold and wet weather in the Western Cape. Technicians are still addressing faults across the province, with outages affecting Sutherland, Macassar, De Doorns, Betty’s Bay, Kleinmond, and Rooi Els. Meanwhile, Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for Energy, Xanthea Limberg, says teams are working around the clock to address severe power infrastructure damage across the metro:
Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has also reported delays on MyCiTi bus routes due to extreme weather conditions. Widespread road closures, including AZ Berman and the M5 southbound off-ramp into Ottery Road, are causing significant disruptions. Areas like Cycad Crescent, and parts of Mitchells Plain are affected by flooding. Mayoral committee member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, urges motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution and avoid travel if possible:
# Tennis: Lorenzo Musetti’s run to the semifinals of Wimbledon is described as a revival of a dying art. The Italian, currently number 25 in the rankings, is one of very few men still using the one-handed backhand. Purists mourned the demise of the art when Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece dropped out of the top ten in February, leaving the list without a one-handed backhand player for the first time in 50 years. Previous champions using the method include Swiss maestro Roger Federer and American Pete Sampras.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-98-cents and the euro at 19-rand-59-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-32-cents and Bitcoin trades at 57-thousand-91-dollars-10-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-401-dollars-52-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 85-dollars-92-cents a barrel.
# And, finally: Former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Nomcebo Zuma, is reportedly set to marry King Mswati The Third of Eswatini, becoming his 16th wife. The 21-year-old is the daughter of Zuma and his fifth wife, Nonkululeko Mhlongo. King Mswati’s delegation and senior Zulu royal family members reportedly visited Zuma’s homestead in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal last weekend, and paid ten cows as lobola.
