# ActionSA leader calls on all South Africans to vote for change to restore the rule of law
# The GOOD Party says Israel must be held accountable for the Gaza atrocities
# And, the South African Medical Association urges voters to take health precautions
# ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba is calling on all South Africans to come out in their numbers and vote for change that will improve the lives of people, restore the rule of law and create millions of new jobs. Mashaba voted at the Sandton Fire Station in Johannesburg. He says unless South Africans are brave enough to vote for a credible alternative today, they will be stuck with the same old leaders:
# The GOOD Party says the killing of 45 civilians at a camp for displaced people in Rafah, Gaza, by the Israeli Defence Force, underscores the importance of South Africa’s principled stance to hold Israel accountable. The Israeli military says the strike targeted and killed two senior Hamas officials. GOOD’s secretary-general, Brett Herron, says the world needs real and lasting peace in the region that is rooted in justice for Palestinians:
# The Democratic Republic of the Congo has unveiled a new government, ending more than five months of deep uncertainty. Today’s announcement followed president Felix Tshisekedi’s re-election in December. Aljazeera reports Defence minister Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita will play a pivotal role, given the coup attempt ten days ago and the conflict raging between the Congolese army and Rwanda-backed M23 rebels in the mineral-rich east of the country.

Veteran opening batsman David Warner led the way in Trinidad with 54 runs off 21 balls yesterday. Despite having four support staff deployed as substitute fielders at one stage, Australia restricted the team ranked 14th in the world to 119 for 9 at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-33-cents and the euro at 19-rand-89-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-37-cents and Bitcoin trades at 67-thousand-732-dollars-20-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-340-dollars-47-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 84-dollars-48-cents a barrel.
# And to end with, the South African Medical Association urges voters to practice social distancing, wear masks and sanitise when heading to the polls. This follows a warning from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases about several influenza strains as the country enters flu season. With millions voting today, the risk of spreading the virus is high. The association’s Mvuyisi Mzukwa recommends that citizens consider getting vaccinated to protect themselves:
