# Elaine Harrison testifies the task team achieved higher conviction rates in political killing cases
# The DA calls for urgent intervention as mayor Dada Morero’s reckless decisions push Johannesburg towards collapse
# And Golf: Rory McIlroy says a grudge match with Bryson DeChambeau would be ‘wonderful’
# KwaZulu-Natal Director of Public Prosecutions, Elaine Harrison, has told the Madlanga commission in Pretoria that the political killings task team helped achieve higher conviction rates in politically motivated cases. Harrison said once prosecutors were dedicated to the unit’s work, cases were finalised more successfully compared to before its establishment. She described the task team as essential and necessary in tackling political violence in the province:
# The DA in Johannesburg has formally written to Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs minister Velenkosini Hlabisa, Finance minister Enoch Godongwana, and Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke. The party is demanding urgent intervention in the wake of mayor Dada Morero’s increasingly questionable decisions that are collapsing the City. The DA’s Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku says Morero has confirmed to Parliament that 4-billion-rand was diverted away from Johannesburg Water to cover vague general financial obligations, including salaries and operating costs:
# The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety says it has stepped up traffic management measures to prepare for the expected surge in road travel. This as major religious events, pilgrimages and social gatherings are scheduled for this weekend. The department’s spokesperson, Dali Tshifhiwa, says Traffic law enforcement officers have been strategically deployed along major routes and at high-volume intersections, including the N1, R101, R81, and the R71:
# A sighting of a suspected drone briefly shuttered a Danish airport today for the second time in a few hours, after the country’s prime minister said the flights were part of “hybrid attacks” that may be linked to Russia. Drones have been seen flying over several Danish airports since Wednesday, causing one of them to close for hours, after a sighting earlier this week prompted Copenhagen airport to shut down. That followed a similar incident in Norway, drone incursions in Polish and Romanian territory and the violation of Estonian airspace by Russian fighter jets.
# Golf: Rory McIlroy says facing Bryson DeChambeau in a Ryder Cup grudge match would be “wonderful” after their verbal feud intensified this week, but he’s more concerned about Europe winning in America. A war of words with American star DeChambeau began at the Masters, where two-time US Open winner DeChambeau vowed to chirp in McIlroy’s ear at the Ryder Cup that starts today at Bethpage Black. McIlroy said last month that DeChambeau, who plays in the Saudi-backed LIV series, can only attract attention by mentioning other golfers.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-46-cents and the euro at 20-rand-38-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-31-cents and Bitcoin trades at 108-thousand-890-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-748-dollars-75-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 68-dollars-31-cents a barrel.
