# Helen Zille says the DA does have a motion of no confidence against Cyril Ramaphosa
# A forum calls on the Police Ministry to scrap the age issue on recruitment applications
# And soccer: Defending champions Manchester City are knocked out of the Club World Cup
# The chairperson of the DA’s federal council, Helen Zille, says the party does have a motion of no confidence against president Cyril Ramaphosa. The party accused him of failing to act against corrupt ANC ministers in government after he axed the DA’s deputy minister of Trade and Industry, Andrew Whitfield, for taking an international trip without presidential approval. Zille says tabling the motion against Ramaphosa in Parliament will bring down the government:
# Forum for South Africa is calling on the Police Ministry to scrap the issue of age on recruitment applications when coming to those who are in a position of a qualification, and also remove drivers’ licenses as a requirement for all applicants. Police have launched its e-recruitment drive for five-thousand-500 aspiring members to join its ranks. Forum leader Tebogo Mashilompane says it’s concerning that police are only targeting young men and women aged 18 to 35:
# The City of Cape Town has redeployed additional policing resources to support SAPS operations targeting known gang and extortion hotspots. On Saturday evening, officials attached to the Law Enforcement Advancement Plan arrested a driver and passenger for possession of a loaded assault rifle in Gugulethu. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith says the discovery came on the back of a mass shooting that left seven people dead:
# A criminal investigation has been launched into the performances of Bob Vylan and Kneecap at the Glastonbury Festival in England on Saturday. Britain’s Culture secretary, Lisa Nandy, has claimed there is a leadership problem at the BBC. She criticised the corporation over its decision not to pull the livestream after the band’s frontman shouted “death, death to the IDF”, referring to the Israeli Defence Force. Nandy says the government would not tolerate anti-Semitism. BBC director-general Tim Davie is now facing calls for his resignation.
# Soccer: Defending champions Manchester City were knocked out at the last-16 stage of the Club World Cup when they were stunned by Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in extra time. Pep Guardiola’s side had come through the group stages unscathed but failed to reach the quarter-finals after conceding four goals in a haphazard defensive display. Al-Hilal produced a remarkable performance to win 4-3 at the Camping Stadium in Orlando in the USA, and will now face Brazilian side Fluminense in Friday’s quarter-final.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-59-cents and the euro at 20-rand-78-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-24-cents and Bitcoin trades at 106-thousand-555-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-347-dollars-21-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-72-cents a barrel.
