# Olorato Mongale’s mother, Keabetswe Mongale, says she is not moved following the fatal shooting of her daughter’s alleged killer. Police fatally shot Philangenkosi Makhanya in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, after he allegedly opened fire. KZN Police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi confirmed the mother of another suspect is being questioned for allegedly tipping him off. Olorato, an only child, will be buried this weekend. Her mother told Newzroom Afrika that she still needs answers:
# The Public Servants Association says it is satisfied that the Road Accident Fund Board has taken a solid decision to place the entity’s CEO Collins Letsoalo on special leave as a precautionary measure until an investigation is completed. The association’s spokesperson, Claude Naiker says they previously called for the suspension of of Letsoalo, following disturbing revelations regarding a 79-million-rand lease scandal. He says they welcomed the decision and will continue to condemn maladministration and corruption at state entities:
# Water trapped behind a mass of glacial debris that this week buried a village and blocked a river in southern Switzerland, has sparked warnings that further evacuations may be needed amid the risk of flooding in the Alpine valley. A deluge of millions of cubic meters of ice, mud and rock crashed down a mountain on Wednesday, engulfing the village of Blatten, and the few houses that remained, later flooded. Its 300 residents had been evacuated earlier in May after part of the mountain behind the Birch Glacier began to crumble.
# Soccer: The Champions League final may be in Munich, Germany tomorrow, but Paris will deploy thousands of police officers for the showdown between home favourites Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan. Many of the five-thousand-400 officers will be deployed on the French capital’s Champs-Elysees Avenue and around PSG’s home stadium Parc des Princes on the southwestern edge of the city. The game is the climax to the European season and despite enormous spending, PSG have never won the most glamorous prize in European club football.
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-87-cents and the euro at 20-rand-24-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-1-cent and Bitcoin trades at 105-thousand-658-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-296-dollars-19-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-69-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz has confirmed its three-day line-up. The star-studded roster includes Grammy-winning artist Esperanza Spalding, South African pianist Thandi Ntuli, Afro-pop sensation Tresor, and the acclaimed Ababhemu Quartet. Celebrating its 26th year, the festival will feature over 50 performers across four stages, with the aim to offer an unforgettable showcase of jazz excellence, cultural fusion, and musical innovation. The jazz stars are set to dazzle audiences from 26 to 28 September at the Sandton International Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
