# The US media reports that president Donald Trump’s administration plans to resettle the first group of white South Africans next week. The resettlement plan was first reported by US investigative outlet The Lever, which quoted a 30 April memo saying the South Africans were scheduled to arrive within a few days. It says Washington was preparing to resettle up to a thousand Afrikaners this year, quoting a government source. National Public Radio and the New York Times say the group was scheduled to arrive on Monday, depending on logistics.
# ActionSA’s leader, Herman Mashaba, has proposed replacing B-BBEE with an Inclusive Economic Empowerment Act during the national dialogue. Speaking at the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, he announced plans for an Opportunity Fund, financed by a five-percent company profit levy. Mashaba says the fund would boost education, infrastructure and entrepreneurship in poor communities, tackling inequality through practical, inclusive economic reforms:
# Police are searching for two University of Johannesburg Soweto campus students still at large following the murder of 18-year-old Cebo Biyela. Two other students have been arrested and are expected to appear in the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court soon. Cebo, a Grade 10 learner from Musi High School, was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat and stabbed with a broken bottle during an altercation with the students. The university condemned the violence while the boy’s family demands justice.
# Cricket: The Indian Premier League has been suspended indefinitely because of the deadly conflict between India and Pakistan. Officials decided to pause the tournament after a match was abandoned in Dharamsala yesterday, less than 200 kilometres from the northern city of Jammu, where explosions were reported hours earlier. On a third day of exchanges today, India said it repulsed a wave of Pakistani drone and artillery attacks overnight. Officials in Pakistan reported more civilian deaths. Pakistan cricket has moved the remaining matches in its T20 league to the United Arab Emirates.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-16-cents and the euro at 20-rand-42-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-11-cents and Bitcoin trades at 103-thousand-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-328-dollars-89-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 63-dollars-80-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level four warning for strong winds and waves along the Western Cape coast this weekend. The Disaster Risk Management Centre’s spokesperson, Sonica Lategan, says winds will pick up from this evening to tomorrow evening, possibly causing damage to roofs, trees, and coastal areas:
